Career Story

David Thompson was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, where an early obsession with computers and how things worked under the hood led him naturally toward software engineering. He studied Computer Science at the University of Washington, graduating in 2008, and spent his first three years as a backend developer at a Seattle-based SaaS startup.

In 2011, David shifted toward search, joining the engineering team at a leading U.S. e-commerce platform where he worked on site performance and crawlability infrastructure. That role gave him a front-row perspective on how URL structure, rendering pipelines, and faceted navigation logic affect search engines at scale.

As an independent consultant, David built a reputation for handling migration projects that other agencies turned down as too complex. One major engagement involved a 600,000-page e-commerce site moving from a legacy platform to a custom headless architecture. The migration was executed with zero indexation loss, followed by a 43% improvement in crawl efficiency and a 31% increase in indexed product pages within 90 days.

By 2018, David had become a regular reader of Michael Chen's published work in Search Engine Journal. When a position at Local SEO USA opened in early 2019, David applied directly. He joined the team as Technical SEO Director shortly after and became one of the agency's central technical leaders.
